Meeting cancelled

Whole Life Disability Strategy Meeting on the Tuesday 14th March has been cancelled
because there was not enough people coming to the meeting.


The team said that they are happy to talk to groups of people.  If you would like to do this either face to face or on the phone contact

Autism Awareness Week


Glebe House are working in partnership with lots of other organisations  to celebrate World Autism Awareness Week starting the 27th March to 2nd April.

Pathway to Adulthood Confrence is on Tuesday 25th March from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

Whole Life Disability Plan

CalendarLast year, Leicestershire County Council did some work in finding out what you think about the Whole Life Disability Plan.  Now they are working with other partners such as the NHS and district councils to make a new joined up plan for the whole of Leicestershire.

Leicestershire County Council are doing this because we want to make it easier for disabled people of any age to live healthy safe and independent lives in their communities.

Leicestershire County Council would like to invite you to come and tell them what works and does not work.  Disabled people are invited to some along to an event on Tuesday 14th March.

Free health event for staff

CalendarHealth staff and service providers are invited to a free event about cancer screening on Wednesday 3rd May 2017.
The event is called, Breaking down barriers in access to screening for people with a learning disability.
Some of the topic covered are understanding mental capacity, consent and reasonable adjustments.  There will be Information stands along with an inflatable breast and colon, which are educational tools aimed to raising awareness.

Safe, Well and Happy Partnership Invite

CalendarJane Parr from the NHS Learning Disabilities Services  came to talk to the Board in January to tell us about the Safe Well and Happy Partnerships.
Jane would like to invite carers and organisations to an event to look at how we can plan to work together.
This event is on the Wednesday 22nd March.

New sport sessions in Hinckley

Are you entitled to free swimming?

Did you know that you could  swim for free at Hermitage and Hood Park Leisure Centre?
The Leisure Link scheme is North West Leicestershire District Council’s concessionary access scheme for people with disabilities and their carers. Once  signed up to the scheme you can get money off most activities at the leisure centre. Joining fees costs £5.90 for residents.

Improving Lives: Green Paper

informationThe Department of Health says that they want to help everyone to be able to enjoy independence, security and good health that being at works brings.
They need to understand why Disabled people and people with health conditions might be unable to get a job or keep one.  They need a better understanding of the range of health conditions and circumstance people may face.
To read all about this in the improving lives green papers.  This is not in easy read.
